Keddleston Hall
A jewelled evening dress donated to the collection of this National Trust property in Derbyshire had to be housed in a special cabinet matching the existing Cuban mahogany cabinets, however the timber had to be from a guaranteed sustainable source. We selected a timber from the Solomon Islands called Callophyllum, which was kiln dried and shipped to the UK.
The designers specified uninterrupted viewing from two sides that involved the glass being a structual element in the design. Lighting was also critical so we developed a fibre optic network hidden in the cornice. Bronze handles were cast to a pattern made from one of the original cabinet handles.
